This Mental Health Week we're featuring some of the best ....
Today, we're pleased to introduce you to Bernard Kwame Piprah!
Bernard is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who has been working in the mental health field for almost 15 years. His company, BKP Counselling & Consulting, has supported over 200 clients since opening in 2020, and as a former hospital crisis clinician, Bernard has also supported hundreds of clients seeking psychological emergency services.
Bernard answered the following questions for us:
Q: What is your story? Why are you an advocate for mental health?
A: My late mother personified CheckingIn. Her Jamaican upbringing encouraged both internalizing mental health, but also the importance of community. Despite her own unresolved traumas, my mother would go out of her way to check in with people near and far; my brother and I watched baffled as children, only to later understand the importance of visibility, supporting community, and the gravity of the wellness checks my mom was doing.
Q: How do you care for your own mental health?
A: My wellness tools: LED Therapy lamp, acupuncture, meditation, reading ‘Black and Buddhist’ by Pamela Ayo Yetunde, and the gym.
Thank you for your valuable work in the mental health space, Bernard!
