Roots
Do we know who we are, and where we came from?
A team on a mission to create digital tools that nurture healing through culture and care.
Why CheckingIn?
We meet communities where they are at on their healing journey.
Our values go deeper than a list of words; they’re a narrative that we’ve embodied, a narrative influenced by a fish cabin in a remote area off the west coast of Vancouver Island.
At this cabin, some of the best memories and deepest thinking have taken place.
It’s never about the number of fish in the boat, it’s about showing up and enjoying the time on the water, working to improve the cabin, and spending quality time with family.
It’s about creating and cultivating a way of being that provides a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

The Symbol of Our Journey
THE ARTIST
Kobe Galligos
Kobe Galligos is a First Nations digital artist with Ahousaht and Tla’amin ancestry who was responsible for CheckingIn’s logo design. His creative roots run deep as he spent his childhood surrounded by carvers, painters, and cultural artists.
Much of Kobe’s inspiration comes from his family, especially his father, a Nuu-chah-nulth artist. “I remember in second grade, my father’s artwork made me change my favourite animal from tiger to wolf,” Kobe shares. That moment stuck with him, “Growing up, I always tried to copy my father’s art style, because it’s always been my dream to create art that changes someone’s favourite animal.”
The design he created for CheckingIn, featuring cedar and canoe elements, speaks to where we come from and where we’re going, collectively. We’re grateful to Kobe for helping us tell that story.
At CheckingIn, we recognize the profound importance of understanding and respecting the historical injustices Indigenous peoples have faced and continue to experience.
Our commitment to supporting Indigenous communities stems from a deep appreciation for their rich heritage, an unwavering dedication to their well-being, and a desire to leave the world and its people better than we found them.
All team members have a willingness and desire to learn about Indigenous culture and practices and are required to complete the Sanyas Cultural Safety Course or be part of the Culturally Committed Cultural Safety Circle.
At CheckingIn, we’re building digital tools that nurture healing through culture and care. Our work is rooted in partnership with Nations, guided by values of respect, humility and innovation.
If you’re passionate about uplifting community wellness, preserving culture and creating meaningful change, we’d love to walk this journey with you.
